Finding Better Ways To Manufacture Your Products

About a year ago, I could tell that my business was starting to struggle. We were having a tough time meeting deadlines and working with manufacturers, and it seemed like we were starting to sink. I knew that we had to do something, so we started looking for easier ways to manufacture our products. We decided to update our equipment and retrain all of our employees. It was amazing to see how much of a difference it made. This blog is all about finding different ways to stay on top of your business manufacturing, so that you can keep your customers happy and satisfied.

Working With A Custom Fabrication Shop For Steel And Metal Fabrication

Aloïs Boyer

When you need something made from steel or another metal that needs to be precise or work a specific way, working with a custom metal fabrication shop is often the best way to accomplish the task. These fabrication shops offer many different services, so it is a good idea to check with the ones in your area to find one that can do the work you need at a price you are happy with.

Metal Cutting

A common task for metal fabrication shops is cutting steel and other metal for clients and customers. Often the cuts are not simple, straight lines, although they can do those for you as well. Many times, when you need a shape cut out of some metal or steel, the fabrication shop can use a plasma cutter, a torch, or a water jet system to cut the material for you.

The water jet is the newest system in use and will cut through metal with a super-concentrated water stream, and the cutter can move on multiple axes at the same time. Many of these machines use CNC (computer numerical control) programs to control the cut and produce an extremely precise part.

Large fabrication shops often have water jets that can cut steel up to four inches thick with a single pass and still maintain the precision that they need to produce a high-quality product for their customers.

Welding Services

Another common custom steel fabrication task that requires some expertise is welding steel or other metals together. When you need something structural assembled, it is critical that the joints are welded properly and that it will stand up to stress without failing.

There are different kinds of welding that can be used, but the fabrication shop is best suited to determine how the materials should be welded, but you will need to provide some information to the welder doing the work. If you have asked for a steel product, the welder will need to know what the steel will be used for, what kind of loads it needs to handle, and other information. It will all play a part in the type of welding used and techniques that the welder will use to get the best weld between the sections of steel.

For a railing around your front porch, for example, the steel could be lightweight material welded with a mig or wire feed welder. If the project involves a support section on a building, the heavy material is often welded with an electric stick welder that produces an extremely hot arch to melt the steel and the filler rod together, to create a strong join that will last for many years.
